Taicang signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the wine trade with Moldova on Sept 2, Taicang Daily reported.

Based on the Yangtze Estuary’s advanced tourism industry, a Moldovan wine center is to be established, integrating wine displays, tastings, catering, shopping and wholesale.

Marcel Raducan, a Moldovan MP; Hu Yanxin, director of the China Economic Cooperation Center (CECC); and Wang Jianguo, acting Taicang mayor, all attended the signing ceremony.

Hu expressed his hope that the wine center would be a good example of Sino-Moldovan business cooperation, and a good demonstration of China's One Belt, One Road Initiative.

Raducan considered the wine center crucial for Moldova's wine industry, as Moldova needs a large export market like China. He also invited Chinese companies to invest in Moldova.

Wang expressed his wish that the wine center will boost other types of cooperation between Taicang and Moldova, along with other countries along the Belt and Road.

The Republic of Moldova lies in Central Europe, bordering Ukraine and Romania, and is famous for its wine industry. It is home to 190,000 hectares of grape-growing areas for wine production, with an annual yield of 0.8 million tons.
