Convenient public transportation in Taicang
After concerted efforts by the local government, Taicang now boasts a convenient and efficient public transport system which enables residents to travel quickly and affordably all over the city.
There are 69 bus routes which traverse the entire city, connecting the downtown to every district, village and community.
Currently, 301 buses (including 46 school buses) carry around 50,000 passengers on 2,478 bus journeys every day.
Each year, Taicang always alters its bus routes to meet with the changing demands of its citizens. In 2016, it added six new routes, and optimized 10 former routes.
To meet higher travel demands during rush hours, Taicang has added a natural gas powered buses to operate the busiest routes.
The city has also laid on seven special bus routes for work, bringing convenience to employees who live far away from their workplaces.
Bus No 208, 213, 217and 218, are Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes with fewer stops, for residents living in Liuhe, Shaxi, Shuangfeng town and the port area; regional buses mainly operate in Liuhe and Shaxi town, the port area and the new area.
Taicang will keep up with traffic dynamics and make changes to provide better transportation services to residents, said a local official.
