Taicang Port sees record imported bulk cargo in May

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: June 14, 2016

May data released by the Taicang entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau show that the Port of Taicang imported 3.79 million tons of bulk cargo, a new record.

Last month, the port welcomed 34 ships carrying 3.19 million tons of iron, ten ships carrying 480,000 tons of coal, four loaded with 87,000 tons of chrome and two with 28,000 tons of manganese.

Iron remains the leading import, but the port has attracted a variety of large bulk cargos.

It is currently a bulk cargo distribution center in East China due to its favorable location at the south bank of the Yangtze River estuary.

Taicang is a nationally recognized arterial port for container transportation at the north wing of the Shanghai International Navigation Center and a hub for transportation by river and sea.

It has a 38-kilometer coast line and a 12.5-meter deep-water channel.
