Taicang native wins silver heptathlon medal at Asian championships
Hu Yufei from Taicang city in Jiangsu province came second in the men's heptathlon on the last day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships on Feb 21.
Hu picked up 5745 points, compared to the winner Japanese athlete Akihiko Nakamura's 5831 points. Hu led the group until the final 1000m event.
Hu's score was 18 points shy of the national record set by Qi Haifeng in 2006 during a national championships event. However, it was enough to set a new record for Jiangsu province.
Other than Hu's silver medal, Chinese athletes took home two gold and three bronze medals on the last day of the championships, which began on Feb 19 in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The games were organized by the Qatar Athletics Federation.
China took home the most medals from the championships, with a tally of 13 medals, while Qatar and Kazakhstan each took away 10 medals.
A rising star in China's athletics scene, Hu won decathlon titles at both the 2014 and 2015 national athletics championships.
