Taicang port grows more popular

Taicang port grows more popular | Updated: November 5, 2015

Although the global shipping business has remained sluggish, Taicang port experienced a strong growth in ship handling capacity in the first three quarters of 2015.

The maritime affairs bureau in Taicang reported 74,585 ships in and out of the port from January to September, an increase of 24.05 percent from the same period last year. In the same time period, a total of 3,723 international vessels were recorded in and out of the port, 4.58 percent more than last year.

Sound and steady evolvement of port facilities and logistics infrastructures are the port's attraction to domestic and international ships. Taicang port extended its water depth to 12.5 meters so large cargo ships with heavy weights can dock. At the same time, preferential policies lowered operation costs for cross-border shipping businesses and improved the port's handling efficiency.

Taicang port is located at the estuary of Yangtze River, next to Shanghai.
