A play The Ring Road, about Chinese interpersonal relationship, will be presented on the stage of Kunshan Culture and Arts Center at 19:30 on Aug 10. Famous movie critic Zhou Liming writes and directs the drama and Taiwan-based stage-play director Lai Shengchuan serves as its art director.
"Ring road" refers to ring roads in metropolises, which is a metaphor for ranks and classes among people.
The eight roles in the drama cover a poor overseas student, a rich lady, an entrepreneur, a maidservant, a famous director, an actress, a loser and a female artistic youth. Their different financial situations lead to different social statuses. Desire and power are driving force.
Zhou said that the drama was inspired by China's road systems and Austrian play Reign, written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897, which scrutinizes the sexual morals and class ideology of its day through a series of encounters between pairs of characters. It took eight years to Zhou to complete the play.
