The city of Taicang in Jiangsu province has rolled out a series of plans to strengthen its maritime rescue capability and ensure maritime security.

To improve emergency response times, the plans involve emergency pollution drills and rescue drills. It is hoped that the drills will also streamline coordination among different departments.

Based on the plans, 22 maritime secure teams are required to monitor hazardous goods vessels and help remove any hidden dangers in the water.

As a port city along the Yangtze River, Taicang records an average of 1,500-1,600 waterborne vessels every day.
