A command center was recently set up as part of Suzhou's plan to construct two Metro lines. The two metro projects will link the city's downtown areas with Kunshan - a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou.

The planned Metro S1 will traverse Suzhou New District, Gusu District, Suzhou Industrial Park, Kunshan and Taicang - another county-level city belonging to Suzhou - before terminating at Taicang Port. Metro S1 is projected to span 95.1 kilometers and accommodate 27 stations. Future plans for the line will see it connected to seven Suzhou Metro lines and Shanghai Metro Line 11.

Metro S2 has been earmarked to depart from the Suzhou Industrial Park, located to the south of Kunshan. It will be 42 kilometers long and accommodate 14 stations, some of which will merge stations with Suzhou Metro Lines 1, 3, 6 and 8.

Officials said the details of the two Metro projects are still under discussion and that there is no timetable for their construction yet.
