Tourism boom during May Day holiday

The city of Taicang in Jiangsu province witnessed a tourism boom during the recent May Day holidays on May 1-3.

According to statistics from the city's tourism bureau, Jincang Lake Park received 75,000 visitors; Shaxi town received 36,400 visitors; and the Modern Agricultural Park received 30,200 tourists and drew in tourism revenues of 1.36 million yuan ($221,500). A hotel in the agricultural park enjoyed full occupancy from April 30 to May 2, with the majority of visitors coming from Shanghai. They were lured by the park's leisure and tourism features, including outdoor movies, barbeques, cycling, fishing and card and chess playing.

In addition, the IAAF Race Walking Challenge was held in Taicang on May 1 and 2, which helped to attract visitors from the neighboring cities of Shanghai, Wuxi and Changzhou.
