Several government departments of the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province decided to join forces in April 2014 on a Cultivating Culture in Schools Project that covers tens of thousands of students and involves the skills of local opera performers, local cultural heritage, and the classics. There are performances of dozens of scenes from classic Kunqu plays, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera; Tanci stories, a folk storytelling that uses two types of stringed instruments; and traditional local dramas in urban area throughout the year.[Photo/ Suzhou Daily]
