Suzhou highlighted three routes for travelers to the city on May 19, China’s Tourism Day, that offer real experiences of the city's life.

1 Hiking in Suzhou ancient city.

The inspiration comes from Bai Juyi, a poet from the Tang Dynasty, who wrote: Life is a hiking journey, never stops. Walking is one of the best ways to travel through Suzhou ancient city. With water, bridges, and a leisurely lifestyle, Suzhou is like a lively Chinese ink and wash picture that visitors can walk into.

The route contains featured Suzhou elements: garden (Couple’s Retreat Garden), streets, blocks of culture and history (Northeast Street, Guanqian Street, Pingjiang Blocks), Kunqu opera (Kunqu Opera Museum) and local specialties.

2 Cycling in Yangcheng Lake peninsula.

A cycling journey can make you fall in love with Yangcheng Lake peninsula. There is an 18-kilometer professional bike lane along the lake, with ecological parks featuring wild natural scenery. Cyclers can taste seafood and local tea and visit a Buddhist temple on the way. This route connects Chongyuan Temple, Xiangji Kitchen and Lianchi Lake. Travelers can also get a special Zen experience at Lianchi Lake Park – a meditation led by masters from Chongyuan Temple.

3 Loquat picking in Dongshan county

The first batch of Suzhou’s famous local fruit loquat comes into season around May 19. Travelers on this route can enjoy the pastoral joy of Luxiang ancient village. Loquat picking, tea tasting, opera appreciation are all part of the journey.
