Romeo and Juliet will be staged in Suzhou
The National Theater of China will perform Romeo and Juliet in the Suzhou Culture and Art Center in Suzhou of Jiangsu province on April 19 and 20.
The play is directed by famous Chinese director Tian Qinxin, with actress Yin Tao and actor Li Guangjie playing the lead roles.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, has been played by world-class dance groups such as the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet. The play will have local features, as the understanding of the play and local culture are different in various areas.
The Chinese version of Romeo and Juliet differs a lot from the original story. The play tells the love stories of young Chinese people. In the play, young people wear modern clothes, play guitar, sing rock, wear sunglasses, play baseball and talk in modern ways. They look just like young people that can be seen in daily life.
Tian Qinxin topped 2012 box office rankings for his work as a play director.
