Shaxi, located in Suzhou city has a history of more than 1,300 years, and is now taking on a new look thanks to its considerable efforts on townbeautification . Shaxi has won the title of Suzhou’s demonstration town for the construction of a beautiful town.

Shaxi town has taken advantage of its location, with its well-developed industries and distinctive culture, to improve public services, optimize its support facilities and promoting tourism in the old town.

The town has invested 23 million yuan ($3.74 million) to construct the Yinxi ecological wetland park and put 770 million yuan into 17 key projects. Ten million yuan went into the restoration of old residential areas while another 32 million yuan was used in the reconstruction of the agricultural trade market.

Shaxi has attached great importance to improving the environment. Over the last year, the town has built two new parking lots, added 158 parking spaces, closed down two polluting enterprises, dredged 19 rivers, increased 134.67 hectares of green land and completed the greening of three roads. Shaxi has also invested 2 million yuan in constructing an information service system.

Over recent years, the town has been focusing on building a town featuring a modern infrastructure, beautiful town scenery and an ecological living environment. It has been honored as a historic and cultural town in China, a National sanitary town, and a civilized town of Jiangsu province.
