Taicang witnesses booming transportation development

Taicang maintained steady development of project construction, public transportation and spiritual civilization in 2013.

Transportation infrastructure

The city invested 1.06 billion yuan ($174.18 million) in transportation infrastructure in 2013. Preparations for the Shanghai-Nantong Railway and Taicang South Railway Station began, and a number of projects such as the port highway and extension project of provincial road 339 completed construction.

Public transportation

Public transportation made remarkable achievements. The city built the Liuhe Bus Station, 389 intelligent bus shelters and 142 electronic bus-stop boards. It also added and optimized 50 bus lines, 30 taxis and 25 natural gas buses.

Effective management

The city was committed to transportation management. It set additional checkpoints on government-investing roads to avoid illegal carriage . Besides, it set up a water enforcement unit to ensure better development of water transportation. Last year, the city organized 100 security inspections, covering 147 enterprises and eliminating 41 hidden dangers. It also improved its emergency response plans and organized five emergency drills.

In 2013, Taicang paid close attention to strengthening construction of talent groups and improving spiritual civilization to standardize transportation law enforcement.

In 2014, Taicang plans to develop its transportation industry to build a comprehensive modern transportation system.

This year, the city will start construction of Port Fast Road and Shanghai-Nantong Railway, as well as the regulation project of the Yanglintang Waterway.

To better satisfy public demand, the city will construct Shaxi Bus Station and Science and Education New Town Bus Station, adding 80 taxi stops, 14 intelligent bus shelters, 50 electronic bus-stop boards, 80 idyllic bus shelters and 25 new natural-gas buses.

In addition, Taicang will continue to insist on effective management, emergency support, intelligent transportation, safe transportation and spiritual civilization.
