The activity themed with "Folk music in college” kicked off on Jan 3 in Chien-Shiung Institute of Technology. The college students enjoyed the "2014 New Year concert - Yan Xiantao cucurbit-flute solo concert."

Yan Xiantao loved folk music since childhood and is adept in playing flute and cucurbit flute. He has won several awards in cucurbit flute competitions and released a CD album. Currently, he is a member of China Nationalities Orchestra Society and Jiangsu Provincial Musicians Association of China. In the solo concert, Yan played classic Dai tracks and new tracks created by Li Chunhua, a famous cucurbit-flute player and composer. The new tracks, featuring opera style, Tibetan style and Xinjiang style, received warm welcome from the audience, along with solo and dancing.

The New Year concert has been held in Taicang for several years, including solo concert, choir concert and folk music concert, in order to improve urban culture and enrich the local life.
