Experts give advice on Suzhou gardens
Suzhou gardens are an important cultural heritage. However, the scientific protection and reasonable use of the gardens become contradiction.
Experts invited by the Suzhou municipal administrative bureau of gardens gave suggestions on how to resolve the problem.
Wang Changgen, president of the Suzhou World Heritage and Ancient Architecture Protection and Research Association, said some ancient gardens in Suzhou are popular and full of tourists all year, while others are very quiet with few visitors. For popular ones, safety is a big problem. For others, it is a shame that their beauty is underappreciated.
He suggested that overall promotion of Suzhou gardens should be improved, especially for unpopular gardens such as Canglang Pavilion, Joyous Garden, the Garden of Cultivation, and the Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty.
Setting up a booking system is another idea the experts support.
Zhou Suning, an expert on world heritage, said Suzhou’s ancient gardens are treasures of the world. A booking system should be set up to control tourists.
