Taicang plans to build a holiday resort featuring shopping, entertainment, sightseeing and residential facilities.

According to the person in charge of the Yangtze estuary holiday resort, the resort covers an area of 16 square kilometers, consisting of a riverside town, Fisherman's Wharf, Liuhe ancient town and Yangtze estuary forest park. The riverside town will improve infrastructure and supporting services by building a mixed commercial and residential zone, commercial and leisure tourist area, entertainment zone, and industrial park. The forest park will include high-quality farmland, a wetland park and slow walk path to make it a special resort for tourism.

The Yangtze estuary holiday resort had nine projects under construction in the first half of 2013 with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan ($196 million). The renovation of Zhenghe Street, Liuqian Road and Hutai Road is also underway.

This year, Taicang will invest 103 million yuan towards the protection of Liuhe ancient town, restoring its historical and cultural sites and enriching the tourism resources of the Yangtze River.
