An economic and trade delegation from Mokpo city in the Republic of Korea visited the city of Taicang on June 3, to exchange ideas on commercial cooperation of the International Ferry Port in the city.

Situated in the south of the ROK – or South Korea - Mokpo city is the country's sixth largest city and capital of Jeollanam-do. Mokpo Port is the ROK’s third largest port and a key logistics hub for the Northeast Asia area.

Mokpo is a coastal sightseeing city which also boasts an advanced water transport industry and is a strategic marine transportation spot between China and Southern Asia.

Mokpo has made great efforts in recent years in its cooperation with China’s ferry ports, including Taicang Port. By 2006, Taicang had completed its port infrastructure construction and simplified customs clearing procedures for transactions between the city and the ROK and Japan.

Taicang is now home to more than 80 ROKenterprises with investment totaling more than $700 million. The import and export transaction volume with the ROK accounts for 10 percent of the city’s total international transactions. There are also international marine routes between Taicang Port and the ROK’sports of Busan and Jinhae, which contribute to the ideal commercial conditions for Taicang-ROK international transactions.
