Among a group of local donors and Chinese visitors representing some of that country’s most prestigious gardens, a red satin ribbon is cut to dedicate the Jiang Entian Heritage Rose Garden at Quarryhill Botanical Garden.

The new development traces the lineage of garden roses back to their Chinese ancestry and is named for prominent rosarian Jiang Entian. Madame Entian is also honored with a rose garden in her hometown of Taicang for her stewardship and study of roses in China, and a lovely velvet-red rose variety bears her name.

Visitors can now enjoy this cultivated rose garden along with the extensive representation of wild-collected species roses planted in the main 25-acre garden. Together, the two aspects of Quarryhill’s rose collection earned them a rare spot in the Rose Garden Hall of Fame last year.
