Residence of Zhang Pu

The residence of Zhang Pu, author of Classical Chinese essays during the Ming Dynasty, stands as a cultural relic under provincial protection in Taicang. The home comprises of ancient architecture and the writing exhibits of Zhang Pu.

The architecture demonstrates features of folk houses in the southern region of theYangtze River. The residence was built around 400 years ago. The well preserved home introduces his life.

Zhang Pu was a writer and social activist. He wrote the ‘Inscriptions on Memorial Tablets of Five Tombs,’ recognized as the last author of a Classical Chinese essay. He led the Revival Society to master the fine art of Chinese essays.

His residence consists of a compound holding three courtyards. The official cap hall, hall tower and back tower constitute a labyrinth of unique architectural features. Experts of ancient architecture have praised its historical value.

Turn off the Shuangfeng exit of the Suzhou-Kunshan-Taicang Expressway —— take No.204 national highway to go south to the downtown area —— turn left atWest Xinhuaroad to go 500 meters east.
