A groundbreaking ceremony for the new data center of China Mobile, a State-owned telecommunications company, was held in Mashan sub-district, Binhu, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on Sept 6.

The 10.2-billion-yuan ($1.44-billion) project occupies an area of 105 mu (7 hectares) and is expected to house 300,000 servers which can achieve a performance of 1,500 petaflops (one quadrillion floating-point operations per second).

Sun Haidong, Party chief of Binhu, said the district government will provide comprehensive services to accelerate the construction of the data center.

This is China Mobile's second data center in Wuxi. The first one is located in the Wuxi Taihu International Tech-Park.
