Rongxiang subdistrict in Binhu, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province has been making concerted efforts to promote its intangible cultural heritages over the past few years.

The subdistrict recently held a series of exhibitions of 22 provincial or municipal-level heritage items in Binhu, including 11 that originated in Rongxiang, in its nine communities. The exhibition in the Taoyuan Community alone attracted more than 20,000 visitors.

A special section focused on passing down cultural heritages has also been set up in the subdistrict's cultural activity center. This section has since invited eight inheritors to teach the skills needed to make cultural heritage items.

Ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival this year, several inheritors had conducted classes to teach people papercutting, embroidery and inner painting, a Chinese art form that involves drawing pictures or writing calligraphy on the inside surface of glass bottles, at the section.

Rongxiang has also worked with Wang Zhixi, an inheritor of provincial-level intangible cultural heritage items, to host the annual tea-picking lantern festival since 2017. During the festival, Wang, together with up to 400 people, perform a variety of shows, including dragon dance and mussel dance, to entertain audiences.
