Courtesy of the concerted efforts by the government to enhance its natural sites, three rivers in Binhu district, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province recently won municipal-level honors for their scenic views.

They are Tangxiangbang River, Qilidi River and Qingshui River.

To improve the water clarity of Tangxiangbang River, authorities implemented a series of measures that included dredging and biological treatment. Plants such as lotus and herbs were grown in or along the river and a footpath was also built for local residents to enjoy the scenery.

The Qilidi River, which is surrounding by 132,100 square meters of wetlands, has been equipped with many facilities, including waterside terraces and walkways, that have turned it into a popular leisure destination.

The Qingshui River, which was built in 2008 and can be used for irrigation, has also been beautified with fountains, bridges and colorful lights.

Binhu will invest 200 million yuan ($29.84 million) to improve the environment around 58 rivers in the district this year.
