Sweet, juicy red bayberries hit market in Binhu

Red bayberries produced in Mashan sub-district, Binhu, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, a national-level geographical indication agricultural product, are starting to hit the market.

Mashan currently has over 12,000 mu (800 hectares) of red bayberry gardens yielding more than 6,000 metric tons of the fruit every year.

Binhu has made major efforts to develop its red bayberry industry. The district's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has worked with Yangzhou University and several companies to make a significant breakthrough in technological research on protecting the fruit from diseases and pests.

Binhu has also promoted green and effective cultivation technologies to boost the industry's sustainable development, and provided training sessions and other services to teach farmers advanced techniques.

In addition, the district has used e-commerce platforms and cold chain logistics services provided by SF express to boost sales of Mashan red bayberries.

Binhu has also held many fruit-picking activities and worked with fruit and beverage companies to deep process red bayberries in order to extend the industrial chain.

The fourth Jiangsu Red Bayberry Industry Development Forum and the 17th Wuxi Mashan Red Bayberry Picking Festival will take place on June 12 in the Nianhua Bay Scenic Area in Binhu.
