Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province has been soliciting proposals for the conceptual planning and urban design of its three bay areas from global providers by way of bidding.

The district's government and bureau of natural resources and planning sent an invitation for bids on Feb 8 and received 54 tenders within just two weeks. Local authorities then selected three teams for each of the three bay areas, namely the Hongsha Bay Science City, the Lingshan Bay Innovation City, and the Jiulong Bay Intelligent Manufacturing City.

During an online meeting on March 1, the nine teams said they will submit plans that are feasible and have artistic designs and local characteristics to help improve the bay areas' spatial structure, increase efficiency of public transportation, and boost industrial growth.

The selected teams include a number of leading design institutes, such as US infrastructure consulting firm AECOM, Australian architecture, design and urban planning practice Hassel, and global commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield.

The submission and review of their proposals will take place in the next two months.
