​Holiday spurs consumption in Binhu

Tourists in Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province went on a spending spree during the Spring Festival holiday which took place from Jan 31 to Feb 6.

During the seven-day holiday, several major scenic areas in Binhu received more than 938,000 tourists and 1.29 billion yuan ($202.7 million) in tourism revenue. A variety of holiday activities and performances such as lion dances, dragon dances, temple fairs, face changing shows, light shows, as well as fireworks were held to entertain tourists.

To encourage tourism consumption, the culture, sport and tourism bureau of Binhu worked with Qunar.com, an online travel agency, and distributed coupons worth 1 million yuan. A number of scenic spots in the district, including Lingshan Mountain Scenic Area, Yuantouzhu, and the Plum Garden, offered free tickets to more than 230,000 non-locals who stayed put during the Chinese New Year.

The Wanda Shopping Plaza and Sunac Mall in Binhu received 440,000 and 250,000 visitors respectively during the holiday, generating 56 million yuan and 22 million yuan in sales revenue.

In the same period, seven big restaurants in the district generated 67 million yuan in turnover, an increase of 4.8 percent year-on-year. Several major movie theaters earned more than 4 million yuan in box office revenue.
