​Economy, business on the rise in Binhu

Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province has experienced robust economic growth over the past five years and is aiming for continued high-quality development in the future, according to a government work report released at the fifth Binhu District's People's Congress, which was held from Jan 23-26.

During the past five years, the district's gross product increased at an average rate of 6.9 percent annually, reaching 98.26 billion yuan ($15.46 billion) in 2021. Its general public budget revenue and retail sales of social consumer goods were 10.11 billion yuan and 26.35 billion yuan respectively in 2021, representing annual average growth rates of 7.4 percent and 10.2 percent.

The fixed asset investment in the district reached a combined 167.7 billion yuan over the past five years. In the same period, Binhu's foreign trade and actual utilization of foreign investment amounted to $13.48 billion and $1.45 billion respectively.

The per capita disposable income of residents in Binhu increased to 64,000 yuan in 2021 from 43,000 yuan in 2016.

Twelve domestic or foreign listed companies were added to the district in the past five years, bringing the total number of such companies to 20. One major project valued over 10 billion yuan and eight worth more than 1 billion yuan were initiated in Binhu.

In 2022, Binhu government will make more efforts to enhance aspects such as innovation, industry upgrading, opening-up, optimization of business development, green transition, as well as public services.
