Binhu district in Wuxi, Jiangsu province and East China Normal University in Shanghai recently signed an agreement to build a school that provides nine-year compulsory education in the district.

Spanning over 65,000 square meters, the school will be located in the Wuxi Taihu National Holiday Resort and is estimated to open in 2023 at the earliest. Its primary school will have 48 classes while the middle school will have 24 classes.

Dai Liyi, a director at the ECNU Education System, said the university will send a principal to help set up a team of professional teachers and build a high-quality school.

ECNU is a prestigious university that has adequate resources to improve the quality of basic education and promote regional development in Binhu, said Zhao Honglu, chairman of the standing committee of the people's congress of Binhu. Zhao added that she hopes the two parties would enhance their cooperation in training teachers and educational research.

Over the past few years, Binhu district has been playing a leading role in developing compulsory education, community education, as well as education reform in China.
