Binhu holds 5th Party congress

Binhu district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province opened its fifth Party congress, a major political meeting held every five years, on July 26.

The congress will last until July 28.

Ma Liang, Party secretary of Binhu, reviewed the district's achievements over the past five years and unveiled the plans and targets for the next five years.

Ma said Binhu has realized goals set at the fourth Party congress to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and has formed a cluster of modern industries.

Binhu has been listed among the top 100 districts in terms of comprehensive strength in China for 10 consecutive years. In 2020, the GDP of Binhu hit 85.5 billion yuan ($13.19 billion), representing an annual growth rate of 6.8 percent.

In the next five years, Binhu will strive to pursue high-quality development and channel more efforts toward enhancing ecological protection and technological innovation, facilitating industrial development, improving social governance and further opening-up, Ma said.

During the three-day congress, Party delegates from various sectors of Binhu will attend the election of the standing committee of the district's Party committee.
