Intelligent communication, based on the new generation of information technology represented by the internet, big data and artificial intelligence, will promote exchanges of global civilizations and cultures, said experts at a forum that opened in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on May 20.

The China International Intelligent Communication Forum, sponsored by the China Media Group and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, was held both online and offline with representatives from international institutions, enterprises, and experts from home and abroad in attendance.

The forum aimed to establish an international high-end communication platform for experts and industry insiders to exchange ideas on the future of intelligent communication.

It consisted of one main summit and three sub-forums featuring topics such as development trends and innovative artificial intelligence applications in the field of communications, as well as the development and influence of intelligent communications in industry, technology, and culture.

Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, said the country's largest broadcaster has launched a "5G+4K/8K+AI" strategy to drive new media's development. It has opened the country's first 4K channel and first 5G-based new media platform, some significant steps in its media convergence.

Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu province, called for more global-oriented intelligent communication platforms to be built for the promotion of Jiangsu's culture and history.

Global information and communication technologies and the Belt and Road Initiative are expected to provide learning opportunities for cultures and civilizations, according to Yves Leterme, former Belgian prime minister in his video speech.

During the main summit, CMG launched an ultra HD video (4K/8K) restoration project of classic image materials of the Party history.

Ultra HD video restoration technologies will enhance image quality and restore color of classic image materials during major events and important figures in memorable periods of the Party, especially the aged black and white ones.

The restoration project is expected to be finished by October 2022. Their achievements will be shown to the public in short-videos and documentaries presented by the CMG.
