A fishing ban on Taihu Lake, implemented to avoid overfishing, is set to commence on Oct 1 following a month of permitted fishing.
Wuxi's Binhu district, which governs a large area of Taihu Lake, has laid out a plan to monitor illegal fishing during the implementation of the ban.
The first radar monitoring system for fishery administration in Jiangsu province, set up by the district's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, will be officially put into use on Oct 1. It can track 64 targets simultaneously and uses 5G, big data, AI and cloud computing technology to define suspicious vessels and give warnings to inspectors.
With fishery administration boats and drones, plus the radar, the district has established a complete water–air-land monitoring system to ensure the fishing ban is effective.
