Yunfu Group Innovation Space, located in Zhongshan Road in downtown Wuxi, started business on Dec 5, according to the local portal thmz.com.

The 2,000 square meter maker space, an area dedicated to innovation, will welcome crackerjacks at entrepreneurship and innovation in the fields of garments, new materials, “Internet Plus”, intelligent hardware, intelligent life, telecommunications, media and technology (TMT), and medical treatment.

Activities such as road shows, trainings, and exchanges will be held regularly in the space in order to gather talented people, technologies and capital.

Differing from the other 26 maker spaces in Wuxi, the Yunfu Group Innovation Space will be open to society at large online, distribute resources to start-up projects and teams, and provide related services, with the aid of private capital.

Entrepreneurs here can make online inquiries and have offline consultations about policies, in particular policies of science and technology.

A sci-tech sector will also offer more than 20 services, covering consultation, banking, intellectual property, intermediary services, achievement transformation and research and development.

The Yunfu Group Innovation Space aims to become a main force in national entrepreneurial ecosystems.

At the executive meeting of the State Council, China's cabinet, on Jan 28, Premier Li Keqiang pledged to establish a new platform for innovation and cultivate a "maker culture" in the country.

Maker refers to people who turn innovative ideas into creative products due to their hobbies and interests.

Maker culture is an extension of the do-it-yourself culture, and combines technology, innovation and practice.

At the first World Internet Conference last year, Li mentioned makers and emphasized that innovation creates value.

Now the State Council has decided to provide supportive policies and measures to the development of a "mass maker space", which indicates the growing importance of the maker economy.

China is transitioning its development pattern so that innovation becomes a key driver of economic development, and a maker economy will be at the heart of that process.
