A delegation from Finland, led by Lahti mayor Jyrki Myllyvirta, visited Wuxi during Nov 17-18 to talk about cooperation in clean technologies and industrial design, according to the Wuxi government.

Wuxi vice mayor Huang Qin, said that Lahti has succeeded in transition and development, and Wuxi is striving to open up. He also expressed his hope that both cities will cooperate in clean technologies and industrial design.

Jyrki Myllyvirta said both sides have had pleasant cooperation and achievements over the past five years.

The delegation also visited Yixing Industrial Park for Environmental Science & Technology, Wuxi (National) Industrial Design Park and Wuxi New District Exhibition Center.

Wuxi and Lahti started a twin-city relation in 2010 and agreed to establish a "Wuxi Innovation Center" in2011.

The center, located in Lahti Scientific Business Park, is engaged in personnel training, promotion and sharing of experience and knowledge in clean energy and eco-city construction as a move to boost interactive development.

The center is an important platform for the exchange of culture, education and tourism between Wuxi and Finland.

Wuxi, an old city in southern Jiangsu province, is famous as one of the birthplaces of China's modern industry and commerce, as well as the hometown of many important businessmen who have played essential roles in building commerce in Shanghai since the early 20th century.

Lahti is the 7th biggest city in Finland, and is honored as a city of environmental protection and energy technology, as well as a center of winter sports.

Since the 1990s, Lahti launched its transition development. As a result, great changes have taken place in Lahti, now home to the second biggest cluster of clean production in the world, as well as one of the top ten centers of clean technology.
