Wuxi National Digital Film Industrial Park |
The beautiful lake area of the Binhu district is important for screen culture, where film and TV are important, which is why classic films use the district’s bases, such as Three Kingdoms Town, Water Margin Town, and Tang (Dynasty) Town.
Then there are the newer film bases, such as Helv Historical Site Park, Rongxiang Historical and Cultural Streets, and the Changguang River Wetlands, or the large film complexes, such as Wuxi National Digital Filming Industrial Park.
Binhu has gotten support from the National Digital Film Industrial Park and CCTV Wuxi Movie/TV Base(a National AAAAA Tourist Attraction) to build an industrial screen culture belt that blends shooting, production, filing, releasing, and services, such as tourism, catering, recreation, entertainment and exhibitions for a screen brand that is high-tech and fashionable.
And, to improve the brand and build a beautiful lake urban district, Binhu has turned to aggregated development, or, to be more specific, the concept of quality development as the essence of industry. The focus is on the screen industry and development highlights scale, efficiency and distinctness, with innovation and transformation, and the promotion of three sectors - emerging industries, advanced manufacturing and services, to realize a modern, high-end, low-carbon quality industrial system.
The screen industry has grown by leaps and bounds, with priority given to the Wuxi National Digital Film Industrial Park, and the development has attracted a number of top firms in the industry, such as Soulpower and MOKKO, producing such film hits as Tai Chi and Chinese Zodiac with cutting-edge technology. There are appraisal sites for screen programs and film and television service centers set up jointly with the central and provincial governments and the influence of Binhu’s screen industry has grown a great deal.
The three sectors have done well also, making an effort to improve traditional industries, help emerging industries, and develop services. Emerging industries have had annual sales of 18 billion yuan, and 180 of the “530” firms have been industrialized.
Advanced manufacturing has improved with machinery and electronics accounting for more than 75 percent of total industrial value.
Services have grown rapidly with the construction of large complexes, such as Boda and MIXC, and recreational programs, such as Helv City and Taihu Flower Town to boost tourism revenues.
There is also an industrial pattern to help transform industries in light of environmental constraints - to relocate traditional enterprises in and attract manufacturing businesses to the Wuxi Economic Development Zone. The lake-side R&D belt is being used to create a Brand Park and help emerging industries attract talented people.
And, the lake-side ecological, recreational, tourist belt is being used to improve the environment, develop better recreational and tourist programs, while the lake-side culture industry belt is being used for an industry layout and multi-cultural exchanges and cooperation. Services are becoming a leading part of seven business centers and major commercial blocks for an industrial pattern of one zone, three belts, and one major power.
So far, more than 100 post-production and filming companies have signed contracts with the district and some famous brands, such as the US’s BaseFx and Mammoth, Canada’s MOKKO, Australia’s HarmonyAge, Britain’s E3D, South Korea’s SPC, and China’s Soulpower have moved in. The park has become a 3D shooting and post production base for the whole country and it has made full use of its post-production abilities to help professional studios and platforms and speed up the shooting and production of famous films.
The park has shot over 100 films and TV dramas, including 3D films, such as Tai ChiⅠandⅡ, Chinese Zodiac, Pacific Rim, Havoc in Heaven, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Transformers: Age of Extinction, and romances, such as Impetuous Love in Action and My Lucky Star. The six current studios have all started shooting and other are under construction with many reservations for future shooting of possibly big hits.
